The man charged with the 2006 shooting of an off-duty RCMP officer in Carrot River was deemed guilty of shooting a firearm with the intent to wound.

The man, who was 16-years-old at the time of the incident, was in court Friday afternoon. At the trial it was revealed that in January of 2006 the accused was confronted by Constable Gregory Toogood after stealing alcohol from a home. The then 16-year-old took his father's rifle and went to the officer's house where he shot Toogood in the arm.

The judge has found the man guilty of shooting with intent to wound. The question now is how the man will be sentenced. If he is prosecuted as a youth, he could be sentenced to a maximum of two years in prison. However, if the Crown is successful in prosecuting the man as an adult, he can expect anywhere from four to 14 years.
