A new report released by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health shows that mosquitoes with the West Nile virus have been found in Saskatchewan this month

The weekly West Nile and Culex report released Friday showed the first positive Culex Tarsalis mosquitos - mosquitos that carry the virus - were reported in Saskatchewan. The report also shows that there have been no cases where peoples have tested positive for the virus in Saskatchewan this year.

The risk period for the West Nile period in Saskatchewan will continue for another two weeks and the government is advising people to still take precautions to refrain from getting bit by mosquitoes.

Phil Curry, an entomologist, says the risk is lower this summer, but people should still be careful. "Overall the West Nile risk has been lower this year, mainly due to a couple of factors, one is the cool spring we had, the cool rainy weather really slowed down the mosquito that carries the virus."
