Two studies suggest thousands of wetlands and shallow lakes on the Prairies could dry up more frequently because of climate change.

The studies by the Saskatchewan Research Council and NASA say the Prairies would be quite vulnerable to a warmer climate.

Research council principal scientist Jeff Thorpe says the change would have a major impact on waterfowl populations.

He says different crops may thrive because of drier conditions, but so, too, would invasive weeds that are already a big problem on the grasslands.
