In a revolutionary experiment, Brazilian scientists were able to remotely control Saskatoon's synchrotron Saturday afternoon.
The Brazilians used the synchrotron to deliver x-rays to a sample of Chrohn's disease to view its chemical structure.
Emil Hallin, a scientist at the Canadian Light Source, says the main benefit of the remote control technology is that it expands the facility's accessibility.
"It's a very good thing for us to be engaged with Brazil, because they have expertise we don't have and we have expertise they don't have, and that's the way things work in science."
Scientists here think this is the beginning of a long collaboration between the two countries.
